The importance of the chemical state is emphasized as the water circulation is closed in paper mills. The dynamic models of today concentrate on the mass and energy balances but do not pay much attention to kinetics of physical and chemical phenomena. On the other hand, models (mostly static) have been developed to explain many different phenomena involved in papermaking. These models, however, have not been combined with dynamic mass and energy balances. Goal of this research project was to model the chemical state by combining different modelling strategies, such as modeling of stoichiometric reaction kinetics and thermodynamic state
